Attempting a more regular newsletter
The queen of procrastination attempts to post here more often
Life in retirement is busier than it ever was while I was working full-time, believe it or not. People say they get bored in retirement. HOW? I have so much to do, it is ridiculous. How did I do all this while I was working? Oh, that’s right… I had “people”. It was a veritable village!
Last week, we went to Florida. We’ve been together for nearly five years (what??) and we have been to Florida half a dozen times together. We departed on a cruise from Ft. Lauderdale while we were dating (that ended up being our “honeymoon” thanks to the pandemic). That cruise made a stop in Key West. That’s two. We went down to the Daytona area to test drive a sidecar rig (and didn’t buy it). We went to The Villages and bought a sandrail. We went camping at Highlands Hammock State Park near Sebring (where our cat, Cali, who had come with us due to illness, sadly died during our vacation!). And last week, we visited friends near Tampa. PHEW! A lot of trips to Florida for two people not necessarily enamored with the place. Don’t get me wrong, I truly love Florida, but it’s not the tippy-top of my list of favorite destinations (or is it?).
But I digress… it’s hard for me to find the time to write in retirement. That’s why I left Patch exactly a year ago this coming week. I was writing every day, and I loved my readers, but I was done working 7 days a week, as I had done for 35 years at the travel company. So, I make no promises, but if you still enjoy hearing from me, you may consider sending me some feedback so I know I’m on the right track.
There are now some changes to my Substack site. You’ll be able to see this main newsletter as well as separate sections devoted to specific subjects. One section, of course, will be news headlines and top stories from around the Grand Strand (that’s the area that surrounds Myrtle Beach from the North Carolina/South Carolina border all the way down to Georgetown, SC). The second one will be a combo of top stories from my old haunts Worcester County, MA and Cape Cod. Included in both of those sections will be featured local musicians and their scheduled performances, as well as fun events in both areas. Third, though not necessarily last, will be animal shelter news from both locations. If that don’t impress you much, scroll past or unsubscribe. (Oh, please don’t! lol) Due to popular demand, I aim to add in a Readers’ Photo Of The Day feature, but it’s not ready just yet.
So, let’s get started! Check out the various new sections at the top of my Substack site and let me know what you think. Hope you enjoy!
Thanks for reading!
Just one more thing! You may know my favorite movie (Christmas, or otherwise) is It’s A Wonderful Life. Well, check out this new offering from the people at Calm. It’s a bedtime story in James Stewart’s voice (he’s been dead more than 25 years). So, if you subscribe to Calm, you can lull yourself into la-la land by listening to George Bailey himself! Inside the article is a little video about how World War II impacted Capra’s movie.
